New Picture Book by Local Author Explores Jordan Creek

(Allentown, PA, February 24th, 2009) Guardian Angel Publishing recently announced the publication of a new hybrid fiction-nonfiction picture book for children ages 6 to10, entitled A TALENT FOR QUIET, by author and photographer, Kim Chatel. Illustrated with Kim Chatel’s photography, this is more than a story. It is a journey with 9 year-old Reanie as she finds her voice and her artistic talent.

Parents looking for extra value in a book will find A TALENT FOR QUIET a great launching block for creativity. Along with a charming tale, this book includes 17 full color photographs and 5  nonfiction pages about photography: a glossary of terms, tips on taking better pictures (great for parents too) and historical tidbits about photography.  Many of the photos were shot in and around Jordan Creek at the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

The fictional story in A TALENT FOR QUIET is about Reanie, a shy girl who has a new step dad. His shoulders seem to fill their small house. Reanie’s not sure if she likes him but she doesn’t want to disappoint him. She retreats to her room whenever Bill asks her to play. But when he invites her on a photo safari in the creek, Reanie can’t resist. As father and daughter splash through the water, they encounter many creatures. Bill teaches Reanie how to handle a camera, and her new step-dad doesn’t seem so strange anymore.
