Spot and Chester
By Lauren, age 8.
Once upon a time, there was a feisty, fat rat-terrier named Spot. She had to bounce like a ball because her legs were so skinny, they could no longer support her.
One day, the pet dwarf-hamster, named Chester, escaped from his cage. Chester had been ferociously chewing and biting on his plastic spaceship for months and months. Finally, he had chewed a big enough hole to pop out!
“Freedom!” shouted Chester.
Spot sneered, “Not for long, my little juicy friend.”
She quickly bounced towards the escaped critter. In her excitement, she began to bounce higher and higher. Just when she had her teeth around juicy Chester, she felt a cool breeze coming in from the window. Spot was coming closer and closer to the window. Chester laughed in delight. After a few hours of freedom, he went back into his spaceship and dreamed about floating in space with Spot.
Winning Entry
Lauren sent in this delightfully whimsical story about a dog and a hamster. She won a Rainbow Sheep music box and T-shirt for her efforts. Way to go Lauren!
